Information about Pentland Mens Shed:
The Pentland Mens Shed is a charity registered in Scotland and is also a member of the Scottish Mens Shed Association whose aim is to promote the wellbeing of (mainly) adult males in the community who find it difficult to take care of their physical and mental wellbeing due to lonliness and isolation but find it easier to overcome this by participating in tea, chat and working together on projects in a ‘shed’ environment.
Information about the project:
The Pentland Mens Shed sought funding for portable dust extraction equipment to be used in their workshop and a room that they use in a local scout hall. Purchase of this equipment would expand their capability to involve members in learning new or different skills by providing space which is dedicated to the use of tools and all of the safety requirements around their use.
Feedback:
The photograph shows members of the Pentland Mens Shed trying out the larger of the new dust extraction systems – the smaller unit is set up for bench tools. Both are HEPA Filtered for use with MDF and other toxic dusts. The round bin in the photograph is the cyclone unit and is attached to the saw, while the dust unit is powered into the wall. The saw is powered via the dust extractor which starts via the saw and stops with vibration about 10 seconds after the saw does, thus enabling clean disconnections and minimal dust bag usage. The wood being cut is for gate panels on the Currie Primary School fences we are installing in the junior primary area.
