Information about Pentlands Men's Shed:
The Pentlands Men’s Shed is a registered Scottish Charity and a registered member of the Mens Shed Association. The main focus of the group is Men’s mental health and wellbeing and this is achieved via twice weekly meetings and get-togethers for members. The group has use of the local Scout hall on Friday mornings for talks, demonstrations, teas and coffees. Their own shed and store at the side of Scout hall is equipped with power and tools so they can meet anytime by arrangement. However, on Fridays and Mondays the group makes and repairs items for the community, particularly the local primary schools and nurseries. The group also maintains a stock of kindling for sale to the local community at competitive prices to aid their shed funds as they do not charge a membership fee.
Information about the project:
The Pentlands Men’s Shed requested funds to purchase a second hand wood lathe and associated personal protective equipment, required for close dust working, eye protection and safe use of various other power items.
Feedback:
A good condition second hand lathe was purchased and set up in a dedicated space in one of the group’s workshop containers, along with the personal protective equipment, chisels and accessories that were purchased with it. Additional pipework and connections for the dust extraction system were also purchased and fitted.
Application Tranche: 2025-B
