Community For Food – Purchase of new shelving and storage equipment

Information about Community For Food:

Community for Food supports families experiencing food and hygiene poverty. The organisation works with six partner schools – Currie High School, Balerno High School, Juniper Green Primary, Nether Currie Primary, Currie Primary and Dean Park Primary – who refer families requiring support. Support is provided in the form of fruit, vegetable and larder provisions, household cleaning packs and hygiene products. Families can request weekly support and they are provided with a choice of products based on their specific needs, dietary or cultural requirements. A delivery service is provided for families without vehicles, alternatively there is a collection service. At the time of application Community for Food was supporting 41 families.

Information about the project:

Community for Food requested funding to purchase new shelving and storage equipment to enable them to store goods more effectively and safely at their base in Juniper Green Village Hall.

Feedback:

New metal shelving and dunnage racks (to ensure food is kept off the floor) were purchased, increasing storage capacity and freeing up valuable floor and circulation space for volunteers. Deliveries of food are received weekly and two evenings a week volunteers pick and pack food parcels. The new storage has made this so much easier and more efficient.
